“Never Smile at a Crocodile…”

The video below is a fascinating look at the many crocodiles and alligators which inhabit this world. In the United States there are only two types of this species. Americans can differentiate between them due to their snout shape. Alligators here have a broad muzzle, while the American crocodile has a narrow snout.

For those living in the states where these reptiles reside, this is a good rule of thumb. However, it does not apply to the other species living around the globe. Crocodiles and alligators across the planet differ substantially from those native to the North American continent. Applying this common rule to all of them will likely cause confusion at best, trouble at worst.

If you wish to learn more about this subject, readers, the video below is a good place to start. The videographer offers several insights that will help the casual observer learn to identify a crocodile and an alligator at a safe distance. He also offers some additional information as well.

Enjoy the video, readers. And remember: “…Don’t be taken in by his friendly grin.”
